By claiming victory at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas, Tom Kim of South Korea became the first player since Tiger Woods to win two PGA Tour tournaments before turning 21 years old. Woods was the last player to accomplish this feat.

The 20-year-old won by three shots over the American combo of Patrick Cantlay and Matthew NeSmith. Cantlay had a triple-bogey on the final hole after he and Kim had been tied heading to the 18th hole. NeSmith had a double-bogey on the final hole.

Kim, who also won the Wyndham Championship in August, finished with a total of 24 under par to tie the event record. Additionally, Kim was the first player on the PGA Tour to complete 72 holes without making a bogey in the past three years.

On the website pgatour.com, Kim remarked, “It’s absolutely great.” It’s hard to believe that just a few short months ago I had no status in the United States, but now that I’ve won twice on the PGA Tour and am in the same category as Tiger, I’m experiencing an extraordinary sensation.

“This is not only an honor for me, but also the realization of a lifelong desire. To get to this point, both my team and I have put in a lot of effort, and I just want to say how happy I am and how fortunate I feel to have a chance like this.

I am having a great time competing on the PGA Tour. It’s really cool. At Disneyland, I definitely feel like I’m five years old.”
